We believe that resistant stock is the future of beekeeping so we are implementing the breeding principals of the United States Department of Agriculture - Agriculture Research Station. Those guidelines implement line breeding to maintain each line independently to avoid sharing of genetics between lines. There are strict procedures we follow to insure the integrity of the Russian stock. For example, we have no other race of bees except the Russian stock that are close enough to mate to our queens. Breeders from our other lines of resistant stock are located in out-yards to avoid drones from those colonies mating to the Russian queens. That makes sense, as one small mistake such as having other stock within a mating area can destroy the genetic integrity of the stock. Another one of our breeding program standards is that we improve the bee over time by selecting for the best honey production. We are also taking mite samples and breed for the least mite population growth. We follow strict standards on placing drone production hives to flood the area with drones to ensure correct mating. All the queens produced in our breeding program are naturally mated queens. This is just a small sample of our standards for producing Russian queens.
We believe that if you do anything, you must do it right. So starting in the 2008 shipping season, we started producing Russian queens and package bees in isolated mating yards away from other races of honeybees. For the 2010 shipping season, we have added mite-resistant Italian stock, Carniolan, and VSH stock mated to our Russian drones. Queens and packages produced by strict drone control and queen selection standards are higher because you get what you pay for. They are better and you will be getting true Russian stock. We think that you will be totally satisfied with the quality of our bees and will put them up against any other Russian breeder.
